Data Retention Policy

One of the core principles of RedactionPDF is that your files do not stick around longer than necessary. Every file uploaded — original and redacted — is automatically deleted after a defined retention window.

How Retention Works

Free Tier: 1 Hour

Free users: both the original PDF and the redacted version are available for up to 1 hour after processing is complete.

Download Window

You should download your redacted PDF within the retention window. After download, the file is scheduled for deletion. No copies remain on our servers after the window closes.

Automatic Deletion

Deletion is automatic and cannot be undone. When the retention period expires, both files are permanently removed from our infrastructure. We cannot recover them.

No Extension

The retention window cannot be extended. If you need more time, we recommend downloading your redacted PDF immediately after processing.

What Gets Deleted

Your original PDF upload
The redacted PDF generated after processing
Any intermediate files created during processing
The redaction summary (after you download it)
Job metadata after the retention window closes

What We Never Keep

The content of your PDFs (text, images, metadata)
The text or areas you selected for redaction
Your files beyond the retention window
Any copies after you download your redacted PDF

Download Your Redacted PDF Promptly

The retention window is short by design. Make sure to download your redacted PDF as soon as it is ready. Once deleted, files cannot be recovered.
